TrustedMail(tm)

What is Trustedmail?
Trustedmail is primarily a spam filter, but is also a virus filter.
How does it work?
Trustedmail is a program that runs on our servers, not on your machine, and therefore scans all of your emails for spam and viruses BEFORE they reach your computer.

Trustedmail uses pre programmed ' algorithms ' to identify suspected spam messages - these algorithms search each email for common spam symptoms, for example words like 'viagra', 'special offer' and 'teens' amongst other things. If an email has more than a preset number of suspect features, Trusted Mail classes it as spam and moves it into a quarantine mailbox, which again is on our server. All emails are also virus scanned, and any suspected viruses are neutralised and also moved to the quarantine mailbox. Both the spam algorithms and antivirus are continuously updated.
Whilst the algorithms will pick up the majority of spam, you can make the filters more accurate by personalising 'black lists' and 'white lists'. A black list is a list where you can manually add specific email addresses or domains that you receive spam from. Once in the black list, all email coming in from that domain is rejected completely. It does not go through any further filtering. The white list is a list where you can add email addresses which you are completely happy to receive. Any inbound emails to these addresses then go direct to your mailbox and are not filtered at all. (I.e. Trustedmail checks incoming mail against the white list first, then the black list, and then against standard algorithms.)
The quarantine mailbox can be accessed by you as often as you choose. You can then go through the mail in the quarantine box and delete any that is definitely spam, and deliver any that has been mistakenly quarantined. It is advisable to add the relevant email address to the white list when this occurs.
