FAQ

What is SPAM?
SPAM is any email that has been sent to you advertising something that you have not asked for from a company with whom you do not already have a business relationship.

Mailwasher Pro

One of the most annoying and aggravating things that all of us that use the Internet have to suffer is SPAM email. Frequently offensive and always a waste of time it has become one of the most publicised issues for the Internet.

As technology improves, so does the ingenuity of those who propogate SPAM email. They use fake addresses, will hijack other peoples servers and attempt to fill your inbox with no end of offers for Viagra, or pornographic material, not to mention the huge number of viruses that are able to spread themselves via email.

Many Internet Service Providers have put in place SPAM filters that attempt to block such emails, however some companies have been somewhat over zealous and have blocked certain types of message without any warning or notification.

The best solution for management of SPAM is to run some kind of filter on your own machine. This does mean that you have to spend some time managing it and setting the filters, but in the medium to long term you will end up with a far more effective protection system than if you simply rely on whatever filtration your ISP provides automatically.

Mailwasher Pro is an email checker that sits in between your server (or ISP's mail server) and your email client (such as Outlook, Outlook Express or Netscape, etc).

It allows you to check mail directly on the server and only download mail that you actually want to your machine. It has certain built in filters as well as black and white list facilities. It also has the facility to learn from an online database of SPAM, which is updated by other users' programs when their emails are checked.

This collaboration means that Mailwasher Pro's SPAM filters learn, not only from the SPAM email that you receive, but from that which is received by all users of Mailwasher Pro.

Contact us for more details about this and any other products.

Is it legal?
Not in this country, however most SPAM email originates from countries where the laws are less stringent.

Will Mailwasher stop ALL SPAM?
No. It is impossible for any program to stop all SPAM emails, however, with well managed filters, Mailwasher will remove most of your SPAM before it arrives on your machine.

Is Mailwasher a 'Set it and Forget it' service?
No. It requires regular use by you, but over time your interaction reduces as the program learns what is SPAM and what is not through your input into the filters.
